Prof. Jennifer McKay AM

Dr. Jennifer McKay AM is Professor of Business Law, Justice and Society at the University of South Australia (soon to be Adelaide University). She holds a PhD in Geography from the University of Melbourne and has studied at UniSA, the American University Washington College of Law, and the University of Adelaide. A renowned scholar and practitioner, she has made significant contributions to water law, governance, and sustainability. She currently serves as Research Leader for Reliable, Affordable, Clean Energy (RACE) for 2030, a Cooperative Research Centre in Australia, and was awarded Senior Fellow (SFHEA) by Advance HE, UK in 2025. She is also Adjunct Professor at the University of Fiji (since 2023) and at the College of Law, Australian National University (since 2020). Her major research funding includes projects with ACIAR, ARC, Goyder Institute, World Bank, UNESCO, CRC Irrigation Futures, CRC Water Quality and Treatment, Centre for Excellence in Desalination, and the New Colombo Plan. Her honours include Member of the Order of Australia (2023), Fellow of the International Water Association, UK (2022), Distinguished Fellow of IWRA, France (2021), and the Premier’s Medal for Water Research (2020). Author of five books, over 100 refereed papers, and numerous chapters, she continues to influence legal education, policy, and governance globally.
